Review and CSN Stores Giveaway

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to choose a product from CSN stores to review. They have a huge selection of kitchen stuff as well as practically everything else under the sun. I was looking at getting some decor or a new fancy kitchen gadget, but then my trusty blender broke. I can't go very long without a blender, so that's what I ended up ordering. Below is the review I submitted to CSN of my new, 12-Speed Osterizer Blender.

And now for the fun part! I have a $20 gift code to give away to one lucky reader.

Here's what you have to do to enter:

  • Leave me a comment telling about your favorite simple, HEALTHY, kid-friendly meal. I want to do a whole bunch of advance meal planning the next month or so, and I want it to be simple stuff. And I'm hoping this will jump-start my planning.
  • Leave your email address in the comment so I can contact you if you win.
  • That's it. You don't have to subscribe or tweet or anything like that. :)
Good luck! I'll close the giveaway Friday at midnight.

Here's a link to all of CSN Stores. And here's a link to the kitchen stuff.

Great Blender!

I got this blender to replace my other Oster blender when the motor burned out (after several years). I am pretty hard on blenders--I use them a lot to make smoothies. I really like the glass jar and so far I'm just as pleased with this one as my old one. It blends quickly and uniformly. Does great with ice. I don't know if there's a blender out there that would last me more than a few years. But so far this one is working great!

Okay, I'm at work and away from my recipe books, but one that comes to mind for me (I'll check for more at home)is the simple chicken marinated in wishbone italian dressing and then cooked however you want (I like mine done in a skillet, but I've baked and grilled this before too). Every time I make this for people it all gets eaten and people are always asking for the marinade "recipe." One of my many no-fail cheat recipes.

I like making the pillsbury chicken pot pie recipe. It's a great way to get them to eat their veggies.

I don't have any children yet, one on the way in Novemeber :P But I like making my husband chicken tortillas (chicken breast cut into pieces and cooked with taco seasoning, topped with cheese, sour cream, guac, etc. and placed in wheat tortilla.) It's nice because you can pick and choose from what toppings you like...kid friendly!

Our favorite simple meal is a big salad with all sorts of chopped veggies and diced leftover chicken or boiled egg or nuts for protein. No cook, yummy, and my little one loves it (especially if he can pick the veggies).

Frittatas [baked omelets -- so there's no flipping] are another favorite.

We don't have kids yet (Due in December) but one of the easiest things I like to cook with is the new Philadelphia Cream for Cooking. My favorite thing to cook with it is taking chicken, the cooking cream, broccoli, a little bit of cheese and milk and making a casserole from it and then sprinkling some crackers on top to add a little crunch. It's really creamy and tasty and you almost don't notice the broccoli (if picky about veggies).

Hi Janell,

I love to make pita pizzas, with a variety of toppings people can choose. Great for kids and adults. I make mine cheeseless; Molly uses whatever grated cheese we have on hand. Yum!

You know my email... :)

The other night for FHE we had a tasty little treat that is pretty healthy too :)

Cut a varitey of fruit into bite-size pieces.

Mix 2 single serving yogurts (any flavor) with 1/2 small tub of light or sugar-free cool whip.

Use toothpicks (this is our kids favorite part!) to poke the fruit and then dip it in the yogurt and ENJOY!

I was thinking today that you could make this a light, fresh, meal by pairing it with Chicken Quesadillas.

My kids love a tomato bisque soup that I make, as well as a spinach curry soup. Both are blended soups, so I stick them in a cup, and they slurp them up. Great way for them to eat tomatoes and spinach. Both soups can be frozen, so easy to pull out when needed. I usually serve it with a braided stuffed sandwich, which can be made using wheat bread, and cut up veggies.

I've been putting veggies in their quesadillas. Not exactly groundbreaking but they looove quesadillas and don't seem to mind the extra green in there with their cheese.

You know, my goddaughters are all allergic to dairy and soy. We can't find salad dressing without one or the other, so when they come over I let them make their own dressing. They are so excited to have created something, they'll eat it on anything. (I use the premarked good seasonings bottles to make measuring easier.)
